Auditions at the Cabaret
Theatre are open to any Rutgers University students as well
as anyone else interested in performing. All auditions are
held at the Cabaret Theatre (located on the Douglas Campus
of Rutgers University in New Brunswick NJ). Although auditions
are typically held in the evening, times and dates may vary
and will be posted here as information becomes available.
Audition formats are at the discretion of the director and
production staff of each individual production. Normally,
auditions for musicals involve dance, singing and perhaps
a reading. Auditions for straight plays tend to be monologue
and scene readings and/or improvisation. Information regarding
audition formats will also be posted here as it becomes available
so please check back regularly for up-to-the minute information.
Typically, most shows have two nights of auditions and a
night of callbacks. Callback lists as well as final cast lists
may be posted here on the website, may be posted on the phone
(please call (732) 846-2134), or may be posted on the
front door outside the theater.
If you are cast in a show, rehearsals are held at the discretion
of the director, and are normally held 4-5 nights/week. They
are usually held at the Cabaret Theatre, but that may change
as availabity changes. The director or stage manager will
most likely let you know about rehearsal schedules as, again,
they are the discretion of the director.
Again, please be sure to check this website for up to the
minute information regarding dates and times as well as callback
and casting info.
It is urged that anyone who auditions but is not cast audition
for the next show or get involved in other aspects of production.
For more information regarding becoming more involved, you
can either contact the director or stage manager directly
or visit the Contact the Cabaret Theatre
page.
