Cabaret Theatre Mission Statement

The Cabaret Theatre is a non profit organization located on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University. Entirely student managed, the Cabaret Theatre receives no financial assistance from the University, and is dependent upon receipts from previous events to fund its new productions.

Since 1975, the Cabaret Theatre has been committed to providing the University and its surrounding community with a wide variety of theatrical experiences, as well as offering a forum for students to learn about acting, directing, writing, business-management, design and construction through various workshops and hands-on experience.


Directions to the Cabaret Theatre

The Cabaret Theatre is located on the corner of Nichol Avenue and Suydam Street on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University, across from the Douglass Co-Op Bookstore. Free parking during performances is available in the spacious Douglass Parking Deck.

Driving Directions to the Cabaret Theatre

The Cabaret Theatre is on the corner of Nichol Avenue and Suydam Street on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.

Route Directions:

Garden State Parkway: Southbound - Coming from northern New Jersey:

Turn off at Exit 129 for the New Jersey Turnpike and head south. Turn off at Exit 9. After toll booths bear to the right; follow signs for "Route 18 North - New Brunswick." Follow the directions below.

Northbound - Coming from southern New Jersey:

Turn off at Exit 105 and follow signs for Route 18 North. After approximately 24 miles you will pass the entrance for the New Jersey Turnpike and continue on Route 18 North. Proceed along Route 18 North. After the first traffic light, take the exit marked "George St." and "Cook/Douglass Campus only". The exit ramp becomes George Street directly on the Douglass Campus near the Rutgers Arts Center, and Hickman Hall. Proceed on George Street to second traffic light (Nichol Avenue) and make a left. Proceed on Nichol Avenue one block to Suydam Street and make a right. The Cabaret Theatre is on the right hand side.

Interstate 287: From the North or South:

Turn off at Exit 9 (formerly Exit 5) "Bound Brook/Highland Park". Proceed East on River Road toward Highland Park until you reach the fifth traffic light (approximately 3.4 miles) at the intersection of River Road, Metlars Lane and Route 18. Turn right at the River Road traffic light onto Route 18 and cross the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge. At the first traffic light make a right onto Commercial Avenue. Proceed to the first traffic light and make a left onto George Street. You are now about to enter Douglass Campus. Proceed on George Street to the first traffice light (Nichol Avenue) and make a right. Proceed on Nichol Avenue one block to Suydam Street and make a right. The Cabaret Theatre is on the right hand side.

NJ Transit Bus: New Jersey Transit Bus Routes (For Information 973-762-5100):

M11 - Service between New Brunswick (St. Peter's Hospital) and South River (Main Street and Obert Street). This route also has a stop at the New Brunswick Train Station.

M14 - Service between North Brunswick (Fashion Plaza Mall) and Edison (Middlesex County College) with a stop at the Rutgers Student Center on the College Avenue Campus.

M15/M18 - Service between Woodbridge Center and Rutgers Student Center with stops at the Rutgers Student Center on the College Avenue Campus, downtown New Brunswick on George Street near the Civic Square Building, and on the Douglass Campus on George Street near Cooper Dining Hall.

Get off the bus at the George Street stop across from Cooper Dining Hall on the Cook/Douglass Campus. Proceed by foot on George Street to Nichol Avenue and make a right. Proceed on Nichol Avenue one block to Suydam Street and make a right. The Cabaret Theatre is on the right hand side.

NJ Transit Trains:

From New Brunswick Train Station to Campus:

The New Brunswick Train Station is located at the corner of Albany Street and Easton Avenue across from the Rutgers Bookstore.
Taxicab service is available from the train station. Campus Bus route "F" will provide direct service from the Train Station/Rutgers Bookstore to the Cook/Douglass Campus.

Get off the bus at the George Street stop across from Cooper Dining Hall on the Cook/Douglass Campus. Proceed by foot on George Street to Nichol Avenue and make a right. Proceed on Nichol Avenue one block to Suydam Street and make a right. The Cabaret Theatre is on the right hand side.

NJ Turnpike: From the North or South:

135 - Service between Manville and New York City with a stop at the New Brunswick Train Station.

60 - Service between New Brunswick and Somerville with a stop at the New Brunswick Train Station.

US Route 1: From the North or South:

Turn off at exit marked "Route 18 North-New Brunswick". Proceed along Route 18 North. After the first traffic light, take the exit marked "George St." and "Cook/Douglass Campus only". Get off the bus at the George Street stop across from Cooper Dining Hall on the Cook/Douglass Campus. Proceed by foot on George Street to Nichol Avenue and make a right. Proceed on Nichol Avenue one block to Suydam Street and make a right. The Cabaret Theatre is on the right hand side.

Free Parking is located in the spacious Douglass Deck after 4pm.

Please do not park on the residential side of Suydam Street. If space is not available in the parking deck please park on the metered side of Suydam Street.
