Cabaret Theatre Mission Statement

The Cabaret Theatre is a non profit organization located on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University. Entirely student managed, the Cabaret Theatre receives no financial assistance from the University, and is dependent upon receipts from previous events to fund its new productions.

Since 1975, the Cabaret Theatre has been committed to providing the University and its surrounding community with a wide variety of theatrical experiences, as well as offering a forum for students to learn about acting, directing, writing, business-management, design and construction through various workshops and hands-on experience.

What is The Cabaret Theatre?

The Cabaret Theatre is a non profit student run theater company located on the Douglas Campus of Rutgers University. Founded in 1975, The Cabaret Theatre is the oldest student theater company at Rutgers University. Sine 1975, the Cabaret Theatre has been providing the Rutgers community with affordable quality entertainment.

Where is The Cabaret Theatre located?

The Cabaret Theatre is located on the Douglas Campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. The Cabaret Theatre is easily accessible from the New Jersey Turnpike as well as Rt 18 and US Rt 1. It is also easily accesible via NJ Transit train and bus service.

How do i purchase tickets from the Cabaret Theatre?

Tickets for performances at the Cabaret Theatre are available one half hour prior to curtain on the evening of the performance only. The Cabaret Theatre does, however, accept reservations for most performances beginning approximately 10 days-2 weeks before opening night. If you would like to make reservations for a performance, please call The Cabaret Theatre box office at (732) 846-2134 and leave a message with your name, phone number and the performance you'd like to reserve for as well as the number of tickets you'd like.

What forms of payment are accepted by The Cabaret Theatre?

The Cabaret Theatre only accepts cash or personal checks made out to The Cabaret Theatre. Unfortunately we are unable to accept any forms of electronic payment, such as credit or debit cards, at ths time.

Please note that for events with a suggested donation, such as The Cabaret Theatre Director's Showcase or Coffeehouses, reservations are generally not required.


How much are tickets at the Cabaret Theatre?

Tickets for most events at the Cabaret Theatre are $5 for student and $10 for non-students on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and $7 for students and $12 for non-students on Friday and Saturday evenings unless otherwise noted.

Please note that for events with a suggested doantion, such as The Cabaret Theatre Director's Showcase or Coffeehouses, reservations are generally not required.


Who can I contact from The Cabaret Theatre if I have problems with my reservations?

If you have any questions or problems with your reservations for a performance here at the Cabaret Theatre, please contact us, call the Cabaret Theatre box office at (732) 846-2134 or speak to any Cabaret Theatre staff member.


How do I cancel my reservations?

Although cancellation is not necessary, we here at the Cabaret Theatre do very much appreciate it. To cancel your reservations please contact us, call the Cabaret Theatre box office at (732) 846-2134 or speak to any Cabaret Theatre staff member.

If you do not cancel, any reservations not picked up by 15 minutes prior to curtain will be sold to those who may be on the waiting list.


What is the Cabaret Theatre seating policy?

Although tickets can be reserved in advance, seating at the Cabaret Theatre is not reserved and is made available on a first come-first serve basis only. In the event of a sellout, the Cabaret Theatre reserves the right to offer floor seating as well as standing room. We here at the Cabaret Theatre will make every last effort to seat all patrons including those on the waiting list. We do regret, however, that seating is limited and in very rare circumstances we may not be able to seat all patrons. To avoid this we ask that patrons arrive early.

If you have any special needs due to a disability or other circumstances please feel free to speak to any Cabaret Theatre staff member. We will do everything feasible to accomodate you.


Does the Cabaret Theatre offer season subscriptions?

Unfortunately, the Cabaret Theatre does not offer any season subscription plans at this time. We here at the Cabaret Theatre are hoping to perhaps offer some type of season subscription plan at some point in the future. In the event we do decide to do so, any info regarding it will be posted on this website.


How do I get involved with the Cabaret Theatre?

We here at the Cabaret Theatre are always on the lookout for volunteers. If you are interested in becoming involved with the Cabaret Theatre in any capacity please contact us, call the Cabaret Theatre box office at (732) 846-2134 or speak with any Cabaret Theatre staff member.

The easiest way to become involved with the Cabaret Theatre is to simply come by and help out or come to a staff meeting. Staff meetings are normally held every other Sunday at 6:30PM. For more information please contact us.


Does the Cabaret Theatre offer refreshments or concessions?

The Cabaret Theatre is proud to offer its patrons complimentary popcorn and iced tea during the intermission(s).


How do I propose a show for production at the Cabaret Theatre?

The Cabaret Theatre will be accepting proposals for its 2006-07 beginning in May of 2006. Please view the Proposal Guidelines for more information.
