Cabaret Theatre Mission Statement

The Cabaret Theatre is a non profit organization located on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University. Entirely student managed, the Cabaret Theatre receives no financial assistance from the University, and is dependent upon receipts from previous events to fund its new productions.

Since 1975, the Cabaret Theatre has been committed to providing the University and its surrounding community with a wide variety of theatrical experiences, as well as offering a forum for students to learn about acting, directing, writing, business-management, design and construction through various workshops and hands-on experience.


Cabaret Theatre Reservation and Box Office Policies

The Cabaret Theatre Reservation and Box Office Policies are as follows:

  • All reserved tickets must be picked up 10 minutes prior to curtain. Otherwise they are sold to otherwise placed on the waiting list.
  • Seating is provided on a first-come, first serve basis only. Seating is not reserved.
  • Tickets can only be purchased one half hour prior to curtain.
  • The Cabaret Theatre reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone for any reason.
  • Reservations can be made by calling our box office at (732) 846-2134 and leaving a mesage. Please leave your name, phone number and the number of tickets you'd like and which performance you'd like them for.
  • The Cabaret Theatre typically starts taking reservations approximately 10 days to 2 weeks before opening night. Please check this website regularly for up to the minute information.
  • In the event a performance is sold out, you may be placed on the waiting list. Any tickets not picked up by ten minutes prior to curtain are sold to those on the waiting list.
  • If you left a message for reservations, you will only receive a call back from us if there is a problem with your reservation, or if you are placed on the waiting list.
  • There are no refunds or exchanges for any reason. There are no exceptions.
  • All tickets are $5 for students and $10 for non-students on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and $7 for students and $12 for non-students on Friday and Saturday evenings unless otherwise noted.
  • Reservations are not accepted for events with a suggested donation, such as coffeehouses or the Cabaret Theatre Director's Showcases. These are first-come, first serve only.
  • Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager.
  • The Cabaret Theatre reserves the right to decide how many tickets will be sold per performance.
  • If you plan on having a large group (over 10 people) please contact Producer Mel Sullivan well in advance for more information.
  • During performances which require an intermission, the the Cabaret Theatre will serve complimentary popcorn and ice tea.
  • If you would like to volunteer to usher or run box office, please contact House Manager Sarah Blask for more information. Ushers and Box Office personnel are guaranteed seating and receive free admission.
  • If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to speak to a Cabaret Theatre staff member on the evening of the performance or visit the Contact the Cabaret Theatre page.
  • The Cabaret Theatre reserves the right to cancel a performance for any reason at any time.
  • Performance dates are subject to change without prior notice. Again, please visit this website for up to the minute information.
  • There is no smoking in the Cabaret Theatre at any time. Smoking is permitted outside the building.
  • There is no flash photography or recording of any kind allowed during performances without the prior permission of the Cabaret Theatre.
  • We ask that patrons do not leave the theater during the perfomance.
  • When arriving at the Cabaret Theatre, patrons with reservations should arrive approximately one half hour before curtain. Those on the waiting list should arrive approximately fifteen minutes prior to curtain.
  • Upon your arrival at the Cabaret Theatre, free parking is available in the spacious Douglas College Parking Deck located across from the Cook/Douglas Co-op Bookstore or on the metered side of Suydam Street in front of the Cabaret Theatre. We ask that patrons do not park on the residential side of Suydam Street.
  • If you have special needs regarding handicap accessibility or other needs please feel free to speak with a Cabaret Theatre staff member on the evening of the performance. We will make every attempt to accomodate you as is feasibly possible.
