Cabaret Theatre Mission Statement

The Cabaret Theatre is a non-profit organization located on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University. Entirely student managed, the Cabaret Theatre receives no financial assistance from the University, and is dependent upon receipts from previous events to fund its new productions.

Since 1975, the Cabaret Theatre has been committed to providing the University and its surrounding community with a wide variety of theatrical experiences, as well as offering a forum for students to learn about acting, directing, writing, business-management, design and construction through various workshops and hands-on experience.

Cabaret Theatre 2006-07 Schedule of Events

Tickets to all events at the Cabaret Theatre are $7 for students and $12 for non-students. Reservations for most performances can be made beginning two weeks to ten days before opening night by calling the Cabaret Theatre box office and leaving your name and phone number as well as the performance and number of tickets you'd like.

Please note that these performances are subject to change without prior notice. Please visit the Cabaret Theatre website or call the Cabaret Theatre box office at (732) 846-2134 for up to the minute information.

The Cabaret Theatre season is selected by a play reading committee during the summer months. This committee, consiting of six members, is elected during Cabaret Theatre's elections. The Cabaret Theatre season consists of mainstage productions which are typically full length pieces which are normally fairly well known and accepted.

In addition, the Cabaret Theatre season also consists of a special project, which may bean original, avant-garde, cutting edge or lesser known work. Previous special projects have included original student works, performance poetry, evenings of one acts and various other lesser-known works. Special projects are usually announced later in the season after the season begins.

The Cabaret Theatre schedule of events also includes coffeehouses and open mics as well as the Cabaret Theatre Director's Showcase.
