Actors
Are you an actor looking to show off your talent on stage? Cabaret Theatre has many openings for performers in its four Main Stage productions and various special events every year! We select a wide variety of straight plays and musicals so all types of talent can be featured on the Cabaret stage. Any undergrad at Rutgers can audition for a production. Instrumentalists
Cabaret Theatre traditionally has two musicals in the Main Stage lineup each season, in addition to its musical Back-to-School Revue at the start of the season. If you are an instrumentalist that would like to play in the pit ensemble for a show, Cabaret would love to hear you! Prospective Directors
Is directing your calling? Do you have an artistic vision for a show you'd like to create? Cabaret is the only place on campus where you can propose a show and direct it too! Main Stage proposals are due at the end of the academic year prior to the season the proposal is for. Additionally, director applications for our various special events open on a recurring basis throughout the season. Directors' Showcase in the Fall semester is a great opportunity for first time directors to learn about creating a show from the bottom up, while the Spring semester's Original Play Festival allows directors to tackle new, student-written pieces. Production Staff
Cabaret Theatre is a completely student-run organization, meaning that the entire production staff of a show is comprised of students! Every show in the Cabaret season requires passionate, talented, and dedicated staff members to aid in its various aspects. Open positions include Assistant Directors, Stage Managers (and their assistants), Music Directors, Choreographers, Props Managers, Costume Designers, Sound Designers, and more, depending on the demand of the show! Each show needs a strong staff to make the show successful so keep an eye out for announcements on our social media and Newsfeed page to learn about open positions. In addition, you can always send your resume to our Artistic Director (artistic.cabarettheatre@gmail.com) and let them know you are interested in being considered for future positions.
Tech Crew, Lighting, & Sound
Tech Crew is a terrific opportunity for any student, whether they have years of technical experience, have never been on a backstage crew, or are anywhere in between. Cabaret prides itself on existing as a forum for education and experience, and enthusiastic members of our tech crews find themselves quickly mastering the skill set through their work on various productions. Even if you are not experienced in building a set, running a light board, or operating a sound board, you are still welcome to come and learn! Cabaret Theatre has a demand for set builders and other technical theatre junkies who are willing to work hard and have fun behind the scenes! Our key requirements for potential tech members are a desire to learn and an enthusiasm for experience. Ushering
Ushering a performance at Cabaret means greeting patrons, collecting their tickets, and handing out programs, all while serving as representatives of our storied and exciting company. Our invaluable ushers act as part of the initial impression of Cabaret for our patrons and are pivotal for facilitating a smooth performance evening. As an expression of gratitude for their contribution, our ushers are granted free admission to the performance they usher.
